In an effort to keep all in the know on actions involving our House Corporation I submit the following updates:
1.) As many of you are aware Board Emeritus member Eugene Poldrack lost his wife Glenda this past week after more than fifty years of marriage. In lieu of flowers Gene requested a donation to the Epsilon Psi House Corporation instead, and as of last Friday we had already received three checks. At such a difficult time how Gene was able to make a positive gesture is testament to his devotion to both Glenda's memory, and his beloved Sigma Chi. On behalf of The Board and The Epsilon Psi Chapter we say “You’ll always find it here, Gene".
2.) The pending sale of Lot 5 received a unanimous Vote by the Planning and Zoning Commission of Huntsville with regard to our request for a zoning change. This will allow the property to close in a prompt manner. Thank you Jim Hanscom and Kurt Gustafson for overseeing this effort!
3.) The final repairs to the Chapter House are being completed this week (I think I have made this statement before, however). The downstairs shower now has hot water, and the necessary sheetrock and painting associated with this work is underway. Mr. Tim Adian is the contractor doing this work under the watchful eye of Brother Gus.
4.) We now have gutters on the new chapter building that should reduce the washout we were experiencing both in front and behind the building. These gutters are heavy duty cold rolled steel and should withstand any inevitable youthful indiscretions.
5.) I have attached for your review the 2013 Appraised Value Statement as well as the 2014 Appraised Value Statement. You will notice an increase of $50,540. As I read this it is an increase due to our new building and a small increase in the land value. Regardless we owe more taxes than last year...as was expected. (CLICK THIS LINK TO REVIEW DOCUMENT)
6.) At the end of June, which marks the end of the Second Quarter, we will owe Ronny, at the very least, another interest payment. Pending the sale of the lot, and the tax obligation we have, I suggest we make another good faith payment to him. I am open to the amount.
7.) I will be attending the Balfour Leadership Training Workshop in Muncie, Indiana, July 31st-August 2nd. The workshop will be at Ball State University. I was the initial person to sign up for the workshop under the first time attendee program that allows for my expenses to be paid by Sigma Chi National. Thus far they have been a bit delinquent in sharing travel plans and accommodations associated with this program. All communications have been with Grand Trustee Brother Jim Thompson.
8.) Gus and Myself think a finishing touch to the Chapter House would be some mini-blinds. Currently there are no blinds and or curtains to provide privacy or security for the Brothers that will be moving in August 1, if not sooner. We have a preliminary Quote of $400 for all windows except the ones in the room with the fire place. I intend to firm up the bid with specifics soon. If any of ya'll have any ideas regarding this issue please share them with myself, Kurt, or Ronny.
9.) The Monthly Gift Program has been revived and is being administered by Jeremy Rogers. As of this email I am not 100% sure of the monthly amount or participants even though Jeremy has sent it to me on several occasions. These numbers can be static and he has the most recent list and amount of contributions, I simply did not get it prior to this email. Jeremy can you update the group when you get a chance?
Finally, Brothers, I have been dealing with the issues of my Sisters Estate since last September and we now have a court date set for June 16th. My Mother and I are to be appointed Co-Dependent Administrators tasked with liquidating her estate in order to make some form of payment to both M.D. Anderson and Memorial Herman. In addition I have begun my process of trying to collect from her estate a sum exceeding $35,000 that my wife and I paid to the above noted hospitals on her behalf. I share this info to let you know I might be a bit distracted in the coming weeks.
Currently I believe we will need to meet again before I leave for Muncie. Please let me know how July 16th looks for each of you, as this is a Wednesday. I would again like to utilize the Willie’s Ice House in the Woodlands for this meeting.
To the Fathers on this email I hope you enjoy your Day on Sunday...to those that are not yet Fathers make an effort to spend time with yours if you can!
